FAQs

  • What is the difference between a Registrar and a Celebrant?

The way in which a registrar can conduct the ceremony is limited, meaning that they cannot include any religious or spiritual content in their ceremonies, and they can only marry you in an officially licensed venue.

A celebrant led ceremony can be whatever you like. Religious, non religious, spiritual, or mixed faith. The only limitation is your imagination.

  • Does a celebrant led ceremony have to be at a licensed venue?

Nope… you can hold your celebrant led ceremony anywhere! Outside in a forest, park, at the beach, or your own garden. Inside your home, or any indoor space you wish, an orangery, hotel, community centre or pub. Whatever floats your boat is absolutely fine.

  • Is a celebrant led ceremony legally binding?

At the moment, in England and Wales it is not legally binding. It is evolving and when it does it will change the whole wedding scene. It will mean that the person “Celebrant” will be licensed not the venue. It is currently sat on a desk at Westminster awaiting review and vote.

  • Can I include religious content?

Of course you can! A registrar and Humanist officiant are unable to include anything spiritual or religious. But what if church isn’t for you! Is there an in-between? Yes. An independent life celebrant can give you your ceremony, your way. We can mix different faiths and beliefs in to a unique meaningful ceremony. We can include any type of ritual you feel resonates with either of you. Such as hand fasting, oathing stone, candle unity, sand unity, cocktail making, or tea ceremony. There are so many to choose from.

  • Do I have to write my own vows?

No, I can help you create them. There are many ways to adapt what you want to say and how you say it. It all depends on how you feel about it, and what you want to reflect.

  • What about mileage?

Travel is inclusive within a 50-mile radius. I cover Lancashire, Cumbria and Cheshire, but am happy to travel nationally and internationally. Excess mileage is 50p per mile or hotel stay if required. This is discussed as needed and confirmed before booking, no surprises. All my fees are transparent

  • Do I need to supply refreshments for you?

If I am only officiating your ceremony, No, not needed. Unless of course you wish to invite me as a guest to the rest of the day haha… If I support, you with Co-ordinating your day then a supplier meal is very welcome. I will be there for a long time. However, I am usually invited as a guest to multitask and enjoy the day with you. It is personal choice and absolutely no obligation.
